There’s a few reasons that most senior sessions take place just before sunset.
When the sun is starting to move behind the trees, we can get gorgeous photos with sparkly colors behind you. As the sun moves into setting position, we get beautiful glowy light.
Most teenagers function way better at dinner time than sunrise.
By showing up at our spot at dinner time, the crowds have disappeared and the location gives us more options.
Keep in mind that depending on the time of year you choose, your session will begin at a different time. I typically will start a senior session 1 hour and 45 minutes before sunset. In July, that means starting at 6:45. In August, that will be 6:15. When school starts back up, sessions are starting in the 5:00 hour. By October, the latest that we can start a session is 4 pm.
When thinking about what season you would like for your senior session, consider your work schedule and your after-school commitments. Athletes and actors have a hard time fitting in senior sessions once school starts back up, which is why I encourage so many busy seniors to consider doing their session over the summer.
